This is an interesting article
about how the Texas Catholic Conference (the Catholic Bishops of Texas) is working to thwart the ability of Payday Loan companies and others in Texas who charge exorbitant interest fees to do so. I've written before about social outreach ministries of the Catholic Church, such as the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Catholic Charities, etc., who sometimes assist parishioners and others in the local communities with food and help paying rent and/or utilities. Sometimes these people fall prey to these predatory lenders, in their efforts to keep up with their bills and household expenses, and this has come to the attention of the Bishops, who are trying to take measures to stop or at least mitigate this practice.
